ADV Ubers Viability Rankings

Welcome to the ADV 1B Viability Ranking Thread! In case you're not familiar with the concept, we place Pokémon in certain ranks here, based on their impact on the tier as well as their general viability in the tier. This is an excellent help while teambuilding and it serves as a general outline of the tier. Furthermore it is used in our formation of the tier below.

If you feel that a Pokémon is misplaced, feel free to make a post about it - that's what this thread is for. As long as you are reasonably sensible and courteous this thread should run smoothly.

Pokémon are sorted into the respective categories based on how well they perform their roles. Within each ranking Pokemon are listed alphabetically.

S Rank

These Pokémon are the most effective Pokémon in the metagame. Their offensive and defensive prowess, as well as versatility, and ability to fulfil a variety of important roles lend themselves to this.

These Pokemon are more infrequent sights in the metagame, particularly in top level matches, but are nevertheless viable Pokemon. They are less effective in the metagame than Pokémon in above ranks, but are effective with proper support.

And added Starmie to C, and ignored D.

 

I agree with the S ranking list as it stands so far, but are viability rankings for the Lati Twins based on if they are holding Soul Dew? If not, I would say they would need to move down to S- or A+

 

This is with Soul Dew & Kyogre.

 

What are people's thoughts on Cloyster? Like Forre it can Spike, Spin and boom, while it gets decent STAB options. Of course, it's total Ogre fodder, even more so than Forre and it's susceptible to Toxic, but I think it could be viable (haven't yet tested). At the very least it doesn't get bopped by Mag.

Also I feel like Gengar should drop to B. Its stats are just too disappointing imo. Offensively it lacks the firepower to muscle through a lot of pokemon, especially the Latis, while any status/Taunt shenanigans are hampered by its bulk and the fact that between Bliss and Latias it can't get far on status alone. On that note, it's too frail to have much use against everything except the most passive pokemon in the tier, things like Forre, Skarm and Bliss. I mean if the Latis weren't around it would be amazing, but atm it just gets completely shut down by them, and at least one of them is one basically every team.

 

Deoxys forms exist, that's the main reason Cloy is pretty much irrelevant, besides its access to Spin and Explosion.

 

The latter points are a pretty big deal imo =P

 

Illusion's post in the suspect discussion thread mentioned Claydol and Quag. I can definitely see the appeal behind Clay (ground immune, rock res, spin), Quag seems pretty bloody mediocre tho, should we rank them?

 

What does Claydol do? It has spin and boom, thats all. It wins nothing from its ground Immunity since most Groudon run HP Ghost or Toxic. Dont rank it imo.
Quag actually can work on rain stall teams as Fireburn mentioned in a post on Smogon yesterday. But there are still better options like Lanturn.
So my suggestions:
Claydol -> unranked
Quagsire -> C or C-

 

Also i dont agree with Mew being C rank. Its okay as a lead with sd, baton pass and it has boom. B- is fine
Omastar is ranked way too high i think. I see it in B-.

 

Hmmm we probably ought to update this. Kyogre is gone, theorymon would indicate that Swift Swimmers are no longer viable, Ho-oh gets better, as does TTar. Chlorophyll users go up. I need to test tho lol
