    Tangela [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    Type: Grass
    Stats: 65 | 55 | 115 | 100 | 60

    Introduction

    Tangela has high defensive stats and good mono-grass typing. It answers a whole bunch of common pokemon such as Staryu, Psychic Porygon, and can even handle Blastoise and Slowpoke thanks to Growth, a move that gives it some staying power. It’s the second best sleeper after Venomoth, and it can spread paralysis even through Nidoking. It’s hard walled by certain pokemon in the tier but is still a solid choice.

    Standard

    Tangela
    - Sleep Powder
    - Stun Spore
    - Mega Drain
    - Growth

    Set Details

    Double powder gives Tangela the ability to efficiently spread statuts through the opposite team. Mega Drain is your best STAB in a tier full of Water types. It’s not very powerful but coupled with Growth, a move that boosts your special stat, Tangela can do some damage and recover some HPs. You usually start setting up on pokemon that can't do much to Tangela such as Staryu, Porygon, or paralysed Blastoise.

    Other Options

    Tangela learns a whole bunch of other moves, notably Swords Dance (that you can couple with Body Slam and/or Hyper Beam) and Bind, but all these moves don’t have much use in comparison with the Growth Mega Drain combination. You could drop Stun Spore but that would mean being hopeless against Nidoking. Rest can be run alongside boosting but its poor.

    Checks and Counters

    Fire types only fear paralysis from Tangela and can force it out easily. Venomoth and Scyther bothhave a 4x resistance to its Grass STAB. Venomoth takes very little damage due do its typing and has a good critical hit rate to break through Growths with Psychics. Scyther hits it on the defensive side it's not boosting, making it a more reliable check, but hates paralysis more than moth. Nidoking can go up against Tangela if you don’t have any other answer and wish to break it but it’ll usually mean it’ll get paralysed, which is a huge disadvantage in 4U given how games usually go. Some surprises like Blizzard Staryu or Porygon can be helpful since they are pokemon Tangela usually sets up on. Doing some scouting can help to avoid that. Weepinbell is also an okay answer due to its typing and the Razor Leaf critical hit but it hates paralysis and is uncommon.

    Mention Rest in OO can be run alongside boosting but its poor

    Just say in C&C that Fire types only fear paralysis from Tangela and can force it out easily.

    very few damage -> very little damage
    way more -> much more

    Say that Scyther hits it on the defensive side it's not boosting, making it a more reliable check, but hates paralysis more than moth. Say that they both have a 4x resistance to its Grass STAB

    evoid -> avoid

    previous scouting can avoid that -> scouting can help to avoid that
