Post any you can think of, I'll start with some and we can split it into PPers and non-PPers. This is just for fun

CroCune - ADV 1U RestTalk Surf Calm Mind Suicine, named after Cromat. Furthermore, most pokemon running resttalk/attack/boosting move are often named with Cro before it.
Tobybro - RBY 1P (originally, now 1U too) Rest Amnesia Thunder Wave Surf Slowbro. Forget who it's named after, someone on Azure Heights?
Atmacune - no idea who it's named after, has Curse tho.

i'm being pretty loose with this, some of these are definitely less common and I probably missed quite a few, just put down any you want, just make it distinct if they're PPers or not!
Also I call reflect chansey raish chansey and leech egg raish egg sometimes...

 

I've never heard of any of the sets named after PPers, sorry.

Anyways:

FriendlyMie: Blizzard/Psychic/Thunder Wave/Recover Starmie (named after Mr. Friendly, my name on the PO ladder in 2013)
Beam Gore: Hyper Beam Exeggutor. I gave it this name because it sounds pretty cool (yes, I'm definitely the one who made Hyper Beam Exeggutor a thing).
GSCLax: Snorlax with Body Slam/Amnesia/Reflect/Rest. Named by SamG, who tried to popularize the set a decade ago.

 

What is asd assassin named after then? I thought it was named after marco.

I made flashtwo today;
asd assassin / ggmew are fairly new but very important inventions in mewbers / ubers
lutrew is an older but still important invention in ubers (not as good in mewbers)
disasternite is just an adv 2u thing

I don't know if anyone else independently started using "my" Mew set, but I used it almost exclusively in the first Mewbers tour on Smogon and faced almost exclusively Lutrews there, or the old standard with boom. I feel like I "made it up" - I could be wrong, folks can step forward - but I definitely popularized it/proved its success. SD Mew with a Gengar in the back wrecks Lutrew in Mewbers. After facing me a few people started using it after, and I spoke of my success with it in chats, etc, and now it's standard.

 

When I faced Alexander in the finals of the smogon Mewbers tour we actually both used the SD/Reflect/Bslam/Sboiled moveset, and I personally don't remember being inspired by anyone but tbh I don't really remember (since I previously played you in the semis maybe I saw it idk) but at least Alex played it too.

That being said I don't think anyone minds this set being called GGmew since nobody really discussed the tier during this tour unlike now.

 

Oh hmm I guess fishlax is probably named after the old player fish (was around late gamefaqs era early smogon etc)

 

I remember it being called Fishlax back in the day but I always thought it was just named because it had Surf and the idea of a swimming Snorlax - a "fish" lax - was amusing. But I guess maybe not!

Edit: I've definitely used Hyper Beam Lapras before I knew about marco using it. When I used it, I usually ran Blizzard/Thunderbolt/Body Slam/Hyper Beam.

Fishlax only had Surf, by the way. The more popular set had EQ instead.

 

Yeah, many people call "Fishlax" the PHYSLAX set.
Btw I think I'm using Reflect/Selfdestruct/Rest Snorlax more than Tanklax, and Piexplode's HB+Reflect+Rest set deserves a mention too: Hyper Beam coming from an unparalyzed Snorlax is damn good.

Also, that Lapras is Laprasd.

 

For god's sake I was using it at least as much as GGFan in that period and I stole it from Redemption who was using it in Dec 2012, before "Mr. Friendly" even existed. Guess where that atrocious nickname came from? Hint: He has an ego the size of my house. Every time someone caves to his fucking egomania and uses his revisionist fucking name it pisses me the fuck off. He's a great player, sure, but let's not give him more credit than he deserves.


I didn't invent Withdraw Slowbro. The earliest mention I can find of the idea is by Jorgen in 2011, long before I even showed up, and IIRC that's where I got the idea; I just happened to be more interested in actually using it than Jorgen was. I've never been particularly comfortable with people naming the set after me for that reason. Also, OP is wrong; I didn't use Surf but rather Psychic (Lutra got it right). Without TWave you need Psychic to have any hope against Starmie, and Withdraw makes the Rhydon issue moot (there is Jynx, but eh).

 

You don't have to invent a set for it to be valid to be named after you. Popularizing and "proving" a set, or even just using it more than everyone else to the point that it feels "signature," whether the set was obscure or innovative or not, is still a legitimate reason for the set to be associated with your play, and thus named for you

 

A narcissist who loves the words he posts so much that he floods entire message boards with them and is known for putting down random players by writing useless analyses of shitty games in a laughably pathetic attempt to show that he's relevant accusing me of having an ego? Pot, kettle, black, ladies and gentlemen. Oh, I’m sorry my nickname pales in comparison to some of the legendary nicknames of all time, like “GGmew,” “FishLax,” “Raish Chansey.” Yes, absolutely brilliant. I’m sure you would have come up with some ear sex like “m9mMie” or “ShroomMie!” Oh, wait, those nicknames suck. FriendlyMie is fine. It’s the same as almost every other nickname, really.

It’s not about ego. It’s just about giving credit where credit is due. I popularized the set and proved its effectiveness the most, and that’s the name I gave it. It’s that simple.

Also, you did NOT use that set before me. I started using FriendlyMie as early as 2011 back during my run as Hector Gold. I also used FriendlyMie during my NB Supremacy run in March of 2012. Besides that, you’re just not the one people think of when they consider that set. I’m the one who dominated with it on the ladder for the longest period of time against the most players, and used it in dozens of tournament matches from 2013-2015. Sorry, bub.
