Nominations RBY 1U Awards #3

It's been a pretty eventful year! The mechanical discoveries at the end of last year, the analysis work on-site, and the increasing size of the playerbase and interest in the tier have all left their mark. Now it's time to nominate people for awards!

The categories are:

To nominate players (other than yourself), simply reply like this:

Self-nominations will be ignored, but feel free to leave a little message at the end of your post trying to persuade others that you're deserving.

If someone's been nominated already, there's no need to nominate them again. Voting will take place in a couple of weeks.

Nominees: Mister Tim(didnt count who won what, but this year I was awesome, I won PP MT, Season 6, POCL, top 2 Tokasune Cup, top 3 Winter, Spring Break, Saffron Cup, 2 MT, Ultra League, top 8 last Smogon Grand Championship(lost in tiebreak for for top4 to Tiba who won champ))
Career Achievement - The player who has achieved the most throughout their career in any number of aspects in RBY 1U.

Name: Charrol Astra
Reasoning: Although Alexander impressed me the most this year, I feel Charrol deserves a nomination for having won in their first master tournament on here and overall tieing for 3rd place with Alexander by the end of the season.

Award: Best Innovator
Name: Marcoasd
Reasoning: The only player I've seen really trying out everything under the sun, I've seen everything from Tauros lead and a pair of legendary birds to trying to make Pinsir work.

Award: Best Discussion Creator
Name: Enigami
Reasoning: The stuff about shiny tiering in GSC sparked a lot of discussion for a long time and I think he deserves a nom.

Award: Best Analyser
Name: magic9mushroom
Reasoning: Always has something unique and interesting to add to a topic, and notices stuff other people miss, think they deserve a nom.

Voting Bedschibaer who is having a carreer year. Nominees: CrapAtRBY, Ortheore and Golden Gyarados for the same reason (and hitting 20 points threshold).

Just to nominate what others haven't yet...

 

I don't think achievements on other forums should count. In Tiba's case, I don't see how winning one tournament early in the year makes you the best player in the world (which is what this award purports to represent), especially on a community with a worse playerbase than this one.

Off the top of my head, I would nominate marco as the best player again: 2nd place in season 6 and won season 7, won two or three of the gimmick tournaments, etc. Of course he wasn't going to be as successful as he was in 2014, but he still had a great year nonetheless. Besides him I wouldn't really vote for anyone, to be honest. Mister Tim looked like he had a chance to be the player of the year, but season 7 was too disastrous.

Maybe I would nominate Golden Gyarados for career achievement. He's had an interesting run in that he gets better and better every year. To elaborate, he went from the guy you beat on in the ladder to gain easy points to a legit tournament threat that can go toe-for-toe with the best. While he still hasn't had a career year yet, I recognize his dedication and determination.

I guess I would nominate Alexander for outstanding achievement, as I can't think of any other rookie in this forum's history that made the impact he did. In Bedschibaer's case--well, he's been at it for a long time now. I suppose the old adage applies here, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while." I'd like to see him replicate the success he had in season 7 before he'll impress me. I'm sure with his experience, though, he will.

I guess I'll use this opportunity to reflect on my own year. From January to March I was at the top of my game, finishing in the top 3 of season 6, making the quarterfinals of Joke Tournament on Smogon with an 8-2 record, making the semi finals of an MT and the finals of another, and so on. However, certain politics killed my passion for the game and I subsequently left for a few months. I returned in August, signing up for season 7 and doing ok. 4th place wasn't quite what I wanted, but I made the semi finals of yet another MT and had a great bo5 against a new player. Overall, I'd say this year was disappointing, but still a solid one that will leave me relevant in the eyes of everyone.
