R/B/Y competition at my school and I could use a bit of help

Alright so I have a competition coming up on April 5 2012 for RBY and I could use some help. I will give a basic rundown of what the rules are and my team ideas (I have almost all pokemon ready to fight its just the choices I wouldn't mind peoples opinions on). Ok so the rules are No legendary pokemon, no duplicate pokemon, no pokemon over lvl 60, no items, everything else though is legal and usable. The way the tournament is executed is a bit different that standard tournaments. First round is only 2 pokemon. There is no elimination, this just decides the order that you will fight in the second round. Round two is direct elimination, but the catch is you only get to use 4 pokemon which really limits what you can do. Semi-finals and finals you go 6v6.

Now for my team help: I plan on entering both my yellow version and red version into this competition. The reason is because the winner gets a trophy and it would fulfill my childhood dream of being a pokemon master. so here are my options.

Exeggutor:Sleep powder, psychic, mega drain, explosion. I went with mega drain over stun spore because there is no sleep limit so if my opponent falls asleep and switches into another pokemon I can sleep that as well so all their pokemon can be asleep at one time.

Alakazam:thunder wave, reflect, recover, psychic

Starmie:thunderbolt, blizzard, surf, recover

golem:body slam, earthquake, rock slide, explosion

snorlax:body slam, hyper beam, earthquake, self-destruct

nidoqueen:thunderbolt, ice beam, surf, earthquake. I planned on nidoqueen being a late game sweeper when my opponent is almost dead since the wide range of attacks I can put on nidoqueen.

Dragonite:wrap, toxic. I just thought of using a dragonite when I saw a toxic wrap combo used on a video. I only have those two attacks planned for it so any suggestions for it would be great. Also I found a lvl 15 dragonair in the wild so I have a question on that as well. Should I give it max 10 vitamins right now before I level it, and will it have better stats in the end when it hits lvl 60 than if I started with a lvl 15 dratini since Dragonair should gain more per lvl stat wise correct?

Chansey (probably would be only on one of the versions I enter):Ice beam, softboiled, thunderbolt, thunder wave

Venusaur (in replace of maybe exeggutor since venusaur is faster): razor leaf, sleep powder, body slam, swords dance. I also might consider hyper beam over body slam so I can get a sleep, swords dance up then hit with a hyper beam.

So those are basically my options for making two teams and I can access infinite TMs to modify any pokemon for max power. And since I am entering two different versions I am hoping to have variety between the two versions. And since It will mostly be a 4v4 tournament I need to set up a set of 4 to go through everyone and then have two more pokemon I can add as aces for the 6v6 provided I can get there. If anyone would like to test battle me with suggestions via some net battle I would also really appreciate this so I can practice with my teams. (I would need a link for that since I have never done one before)

Thanks for taking your time and reading this long post :D

Sounds like an interesting format :)

Just to be clear, is the first round 1v1 or 2v2?

Exeggutor seems a decent lead to me, especially in a 4v4 where faster sleepers, like Gengar and Jynx, may not be deemed versatile enough to make the selection. Its moveset is pretty solid, the only alternative that you could use, instead of Mega Drain, is Double-Edge/Egg Bomb. As you can sleep all you want, you may want to use a physical move for the times you sleep things like Alakazam, Chansey (both have high special).

One rather dominant Pokemon I notice you are missing is Tauros. It might be a good idea to consider it over Nidoqueen as it's really the best late game sweeper in RBY. Its usual set is Body Slam, Blizzard, Earthquake, Hyper Beam. It may not seem like it has the best coverage, but it has a good attack stat, fast speed (which means you also have a decent chance of a critical hit) and also good defense. STAB Body Slam and Hyper Beam turn it into a monster.

The other sets look pretty good and standard. Venusaur is another good idea for a sleep lead. In fact, it may well be more useful than Exeggutor for the reason you stated. You could alternate between using Sleep Powder and Swords Dance. Sleep Powder so Pokemon coming in will get slept, and set up with Swords Dance if they stay in.

One useful core of 4 pokemon I use is Starmie, Chansey, Golem and Exeggutor. I can't say I've ever played 4v4, but I can often beat teams of 6 belonging to weaker players by using those 4 Pokemon only. You could replace Golem for Tauros if you don't need ultra-protection against Jolteon.

As far as the Dragonite goes, Wrap and Toxic may be good if you can pull it off, but the opponent could just switch out after you Toxic and bring in something faster to Ice Beam/ Blizzard Dragonite. They could bring something in on the toxic even. A common wrap set is Agility, Blizzard, Hyper Beam, Wrap. So if you really wanted to stick with Wrap and Toxic, you could go with either Agility or Blizzard, and Hyper Beam.

As far as stats go, this might be a useful link for you: http://www.math.miami.edu/~jam/azure/compendium/boxtrick.htm

And http://www.mediafire.com/?7rsw0udlikukzrd to download a battle simulator where you can play RBY.

Alright. I was thinking about Tauros as well (it's too bad he can't learn swords dance. That would destroy) it's just since I was a kid I always had a nidoqueen with that set and I would destroy everything. Prolly because I fought all CPU haha. And I do believe I will have the two Pokemon sets for 4 v 4 (and yes first round is 2 v 2 to determine who you fight in round 2 so I plan on using decent Pokemon. Probably where I will implement a toxic wrap and something else so I do not give away my hand for 4 v 4 since I will play everyone in round one haha)

Yellow version team: Venasaur, Starmie, Tauros, and Alakazam For the 4v4 and for 6v6 I will probably add Chansey and Golem.

Red version team: Exeggutor, Snorlax, Nidoqueen, and Starmie for the 4v4 and I would add alakazam and a standard Rhydon maybe. (this Starmie would probably have thunder wave in its move set to spread paralysis)

Any gaping holes do you see on my two 4v4 teams? I know since it isn't 6v6 there will be quite a few holes as to be expected with only 4 Pokemon. And I will probably restart getting these sets since dodrio tower makes running through the game easy. And I might try and use that box glitch early on. Do you know if I can have the Pokemon I am trying to increase stat points on switch out so I can have a lvl 100 switch in for a lvl 20 and the lvl 20 will still get all the stat points from the killed Pokemon? This way I can max out stat early on and then the later lvls will be with max stat gain per lvl.

Sweet. Would you say it is worth going and finding a good set of DVs for each Pokemon and then using the box glitch to max their stat exp at a low level then get them to the lvl 60 cap? Or would it not really matter since I maxed their vitamins once they hit lvl 60 so their stat exp should be maxed anyway.
