    Omastar [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Type: Rock/Water
    Stats: 70 | 60 | 125 | 115 | 55

    Introduction

Omastar is a bulky hard-hitting Water-type pokemon. It often competes with pokemon such as Blastoise for a slot. In comparison to the latter, Omastar has better special bulk and offensive power, but more weaknesses and less speed. It’s also the best counter to Fire types and Scyther, and it can check some other special attackers of the tier at times. It’s viable as a lead since it anti leads Fires and can prevent a Porygon switch with the threat of a 2HKO. Overall, Omastar is a reliable choice for your 4U team.

    Standard

    Omastar
    - Hydro Pump
    - Blizzard
    - Seismic Toss / Body Slam
    - Rest

    Set Details

Hydro Pump is your strongest STAB and hits hard everything that doesn't resist it thanks to Omastar’s 115 special stat. It notably 2HKOs Porygon, something Blastoise fails to do. Blizzard hits Tangela and Scyther for super effective damage and gives you a chance to freeze. Seismic Toss is your best move to hit Blastoise, Slowpoke, Staryu, and opposite Omastar whereas Body Slam gives you a chance to paralyse those but doesn’t hurt them a lot. Rest is used due to the lack of serious options and gives more staying power to Omastar, coupling well with its bulk.

    Other Options

You can run both Seismic Toss and Body Slam by dropping Rest but that gives Omastar less longevity. Ice beam is an option over Blizzard for a better accuracy and more PPs but the damage you lose on Tangela can be annoying in some situations. Mimic could get you moves such as Thunderbolt or Recover but it’s not reliable.

    Checks and Counters

Blastoise is a good Omastar switch-in since it can take its attacks quite easily and threaten it with paralysis via a Body Slam spam. Staryu and Slowpoke can do the same with Thunder Wave, though in the case of Blastoise and Slowpoke you should be careful about the turn where you Rest once Omastar has forced you to do so. You can obviously adapt your answer depending on what move Omastar has. If Omastar is paralysed, then unparalysed Porygon becomes a potential switch-in. Tangela becomes one too but has to be careful of not switching on a Blizzard. Venomoth can use Stun Spore since Omastar is a possible switch-in, the Mega Drain variant can also be annoying at times. A good bet to handle Omastar is to force it to Rest for example via Blastoise and to go to Nidoking or anything which can threaten it.

Maybe mention how you can run Surf alongside Hydro Pump in OO as a more reliable STAB option, but that the drop in power is notable - it cannot OHKO Nidoking [Hydro Pump has a 64% chance not factoring accuracy -- a little over 50% factoring accuracy] but the ability to hit stuff like Nidoking etc. reliably is a bit useful

Note that body slam still does decent damage to staryu as do any of its moves since staryu is fairly frail, and the paralysis is your best tool to annoy staryu making it more noteworthy. Just I think it needs a lil more emphasis on that point.
