Welcome to the DG9 Album Ratings thread!
So in this thread, I will be rating rap/hip-hop albums/mixtapes. I have been quite a fan of the genre of music for the longest time, and I have always liked giving albums a little rating. Well after some thinking, I decided I would like to do some weekly rates on albums. This can just be something for someone to read while they eat or something lol. For reference, I plan on doing a rate every Tuesday and a throwback rate every Thursday. Below will be a way to quickly access a rate that you want to see.

Name of Album: Marshall Mathers LP

Artist: Eminem

Release Year:
2000

Length: 72:14

Pre-Listen Notes:
Although I heard a couple songs off of the album before I actually sat down and listened to the album, I think I could still put a couple things here. Of course, this is often praised as one of the best rap/hip-hop albums of all time, so I definitely had pretty high expectations. I was just hoping to sit down and listen to some good Eminem music.

So this was such a great listen. You have songs like The Way I Am, Stan, The Real Slim Shady, which are classics. I have found some great songs in Kill You, Who Knew, and Marshall Mathers. Some of the skits really put the album together and let songs flow into each other. However, you had certain things that bring down the album rating as well. Remember Me was just an awkward song where Eminem is screaming into the mic at an uncomfortable volume of level. The other guys on the track lack any energy and then there is screaming. This song was a huge let down after the album was going so great. I'm Back was a good song, but I feel as if it was only made cause someone realized how bad Remember Me is. It's almost saying, ok I know that song was bad but I'm back now to deliver some more great music. Personally though it should've came after the Ken Kaniff skit, or just not include that skit at all. That was disgusting, I was enjoying the album and all of a sudden I have to hear the sound of some dude getting head. I didn't really feel like Drug Ballad belonged on this album, since it was just rapping about drugs. In fact, after the disgusting skit is where the album started to fall, which is sad because before that the album was near perfect. You always got the message that he was self aware and wanted to piss people off but not out of anger, in fact he told people I want to piss you off. In the last third of the album the only song I kind of like is Kim, and it's cause of the extreme anger expressed in such a violent way. And after that, it's a very average, perhaps under average album.

Overall Rating: 4.75/5

Final Notes:
An incredible album overall, despite tampering off at the end. You have some of Eminem's best songs of all time on here, and other really good songs as well. This is one of the best Eminem albums of all time, if not the best. If you haven't heard it and you are a rap/hip-hop fan, I suggest going to check it out. Even if you don't like this genre of music, songs like Stan and Real Slim Shady are songs that you can get into. That's all for the Marshall Mathers LP.

Update: Due to a computer crash this series will be discontinued.
