  2. Welcome to Pokemon Perfect, Guest!

Our motto is Pokémon Practice makes Pokémon Perfect. We are a competitive-battling community that encourages the development of players and their ideas, and fosters positive and respectful attitudes. We love Collaboration (working together), Competition (getting stronger), and Communication (being informed).

You are free to post everywhere, unless the thread explicitly states otherwise (usually in the case of a vote), and there are no private forums whatsoever. Also, let us greet you by posting a thread in the Introduce Yourself! forum.

  3. Tiers

View Introduction to Tiers if you don't know what tiers are. Pokémon Perfect tiers are named differently to those on Smogon. A numeral followed by the letter U, e.g. 1U, 2U, 3U, represents a main tier on Pokémon Perfect – the '1' of '1U' representing the tier level. For a tier to be a main tier, it must be balanced (nothing is too powerful and game-breaking) and diverse enough (include a variety of Pokémon and strategies). A numeral followed by the letter P, e.g. 1P, 2P, 3P contain all Pokémon that are deemed overpowered in the respective 1U, 2U, 3U tiers. The 1st tier level allows Pokémon that are banned in the 2nd level, and this process continues down. Read the tier list, and in-depth explanations of the tiers naming system and tiering system. Also check out our analyses for all tiers.

  4. Tournaments

RBY 1U Seasons and its master tournaments are responsible for starting up the community, and tournaments continue to play a big role in maintaining interest in the forums. Signups Open gives you a list of tournaments you can join, and Ongoing lists tournaments that you might want to follow. Additionally, you can tap to find out approximate Schedules for tournaments.

For historical threads, check out Signups Closed, Finished tournaments and Results. We also have Nominations, Voting and Event threads for exhibitions – past and present.

The competitive Pokémon scene is saturated with misinformed stupid idiots trash talking each other. Even those who attempt to be objective often do a terrible job when analyzing other players. Thus, in order to put an end to this severe toxicity that plagues our world, I will write something positive and uplifting about those who post in this thread.

You are a tireless, extremely committed individual. Not only have your copious contributions to various aspects of the game been an invaluable source of information for new players, but they have resulted in Pokemon Perfect's ascension from an unknown independent entity to a legitimate competitor and threat to Smogon. In addition to your penchant for discussions and development, your narrations of several important tournament matches have enhanced the credibility and prestige of the tournament scene. No matter how great a player is, he or she is easily replaceable. It's far greater of a challenge to replace a great promoter and advocate.

However, it would be a grave mistake to dismiss your success as a player. Although you've never won a tournament, your persistence and desire to always improve have resulted in you reaching the top 10 of the RBY OU leaderboard. What makes this achievement even more impressive is how much you've juggled throughout this time: managing the forum, organizing tournaments, narrating games, leading discussions, and so on. You've also managed to become a proficient ADV player, a claim that only a very few of us RBY specialists hold. Wear your ADV rankings medal with pride.

Indeed, your energy knows no bounds.

Though you joined Pokémon Perfect just recently, you've already proven yourself to be a well-spoken, well-mannered, and well-tempered individual in a short amount of time. Your posts are thoughtful and indicate an impressive knowledge of old-gen history, particularly GSC, which will always be in dire need of intelligent and passionate people such as yourself. It would not surprise me in the slightest if you were to go on achieve greatness in the generation that has piqued your interest, for you already seem to possess all of the tools necessary to do so.

You truly are a versatile player, having displayed skill across multiple generations--no wonder you were a member of the winning team of the first PPL. However, it wasn't merely your ability that earned you success. Unlike other players who are quick to boast about their accomplishments like the braggadocious bombasts that they love being, you are a humble individual who is grateful for the success he finds and respects the opponents who defeat you. Whether in victory or in defeat, you are honest--which is, honestly, a rare trait to find in this black hole of the internet known as competitive Pokémon. I'm confident you will remain a respected and well-liked member in this world, and will always be able to find people who would gladly endeavor to assist you whenever you are in need of guidance when building teams, learning metagames, and so on.

Just want to try my best at uplifting you GGFan, since you've kindly did it for others but neglected yourself so far.

    GGFan

Amazing! How do you do it, GGFan?

You've always been like this. Ever since the first day I met you. Always ready to meet the next challenge, even if it's bigger than you are.

I used to RBY for the sheer pleasure of it; for the thrill of the hunt, oh I had the strength unmeasurable - I spared no one, and found plenty of corrupt excuses to remove you from tournaments. And yet, you showed mercy to everyone, even your fiercest enemies, even me! Yet, you never fought to pwn, or for revenge. Only to test your limits and to push yourself beyond them, to become the strongest you could possibly be. How can an RBY veteran compete like that and at the same time be so gentle that he wouldn't hurt a fly? It makes me angry just thinking about it! But, perhaps it is my anger that has made me blind to the truth for so long. I see it now, this day has made it all too clear.

You're better than me GGFan. You are the best.

To say that you are a good or even a great ADV player is an understatement. Your dedication towards this metagame is astounding, as you have earned a reputation as one of its best players despite already being on the north side of 20. However, despite limitations imposed by your age and other commitments, you did an admirable job hosting a previous ADV season, and have continued to perform tremendously well on the ladder. You possess laudable resilience as well; for example, bouncing back from an underwhelming PPL and remaining one of the most difficult obstacles that players must overcome in Master Tournaments.

Another area you excel in is analysis. When engaging in discussion, you write some of the most thoughtful and well-written posts on the forum. Perhaps a future as a full-time analyst would suit you. Whatever you choose to do, I'm certain you will be successful.

As you say, it is disappointing and--dare I say--tragic, how your egregious relationship with corruption has resulted in my premature and unfair elimination from previous tournaments (literally "lol you don't win, he wins tourney restarted"). However, this is in the past now. "Past," a word that gives you comfort everyday. It was in the past when, after six whole years of accomplishing nothing, you finally had a good year. To you, it was so good that you would become one of the part-timers that you adore so much the year after. While you are now known as a one-year wonder whose one year is already so far back that it means nothing, it would remiss to not acknowledge your accomplishments, as they ARE impressive.

You won the very first season with a whopping 18 out of 36 points. When things became more oh-so-slightly more competitive, you put up a fight but were unable to win a season when losing in the first round was no longer an option. You put on one of the most legendary tournament performances of all time in the first RBY OU World Championship, where you beat some guy and some other guy and then had a fantastic best-of-five showdown in the semi finals against Green "One Mean Team" Gyarados, unfortunately losing in not five, four, but three games to his well-trained Thunderbolt Tauros, Leech Seed Exeggutor, and Confuse Ray Gengar.

As dominant as you were, you were smart to realize that, by 2014, you were already in your twilight. After another first-round loss to some guy in Master Tournament #7, you would dust yourself up after falling flat and stand tall long enough to lose to me and then pass the match to marcoasd in Master Tournament #8. I respect you enormously for riding off into the sunset towards Smogon, where a golden age of pandering would take place over the next three years, instead of continuing to put your body on the line in old age. What can I say? I've found the fountain and youth and don't want to share it.

Congratulations, Lutra. I may be the best, but I would be nothing without the likes of you.

Your persistence is commendable. Despite losing in RBY on multiple occasions, your energy and motivation never once flagged, which resulted in your recent triumph of finally making it past the first round of a tournament. I’m sure it must have felt great when you won your third-stage set match in the World Championship, but don’t worry: no matter how far you will go in this tournament, it will only be the beginning as long as you continue to believe in yourself.

Besides your recent success in RBY, you’ve established yourself as a knowledgeable source of information in HGSS. People value your opinions highly and look forward to reading your thoughts on matchups, whether it be on the forum or on the Discord server, where your optimism, sense of humor, and everlasting positive attitude make you a joy to be around. In an environment as toxic as the competitive Pokemon scene, you are a breath of fresh air. If others can learn from you, then the dark, pungent clouds will dissipate and the bright, brimming sun will shine along the valley of a heavenly blue sky. I hope this day will come soon rather than later.

The team you were assigned to manage in the World Cup of Pokemon Perfect contains some of the biggest names in competitive Pokemon today, if not in history, which means that it would be your duty not only to manage big-name players, but big-time egos as well. You have exceeded in this role with flying colors thanks your calm, collective nature, in which your patience and sound reasoning have allowed you to navigate through every precarious situation you’ve encountered thus far. While I was firing the cannons at our enemies, you were bravely weathering the storm—truly the mark of a noble and great captain.

Due to how well you handled the adversity we faced in week 3, you may very well go down as the greatest manager in the history of our game. That would be a fair assessment, given not only your intelligence, but your magnanimity as well. In spite of the fierce competition we faced from team France, you nonetheless had the whole team in mind when you deemed everyone worthy for combat. I can’t think of another manager who possesses a heart as golden as yours. Perhaps if I were the manager, but compared to your gold mine of generosity mine is only a speck in a hay stack.

You are one of a handful of younger players whose age belies his maturity. Whereas others degenerate threads and discussion into offensive arguments saturated with homophobic and racist filth, you always maintain your composure and serve as an example of how to behave. Not only is your attitude commendable, but your prowess on the battle field is indeed very impressive as well. In RBY you’ve managed to take the likes of myself and Alexander to the limit in memorable sets, proving that you have a great deal of potential for further development. Meanwhile, in ADV you have established a reputation as a legitimate top-10 player despite competing amongst very hungry and capable talent. In Pokemon it’s rare to find somebody who is both a great player and a great person—for that reason alone will you always find opportunities.

The great Aristotle taught us that extremes are a vice, whether they be good or bad. Moderation is the key, he stressed. You have adhered to this advice remarkably well, and I believe you have benefited greatly from it. After winning what was, perhaps, the most competitive season in Pokemon Perfect history, you took a well-deserved break from competing in seasons, presumably to focus more on other aspects of your life or on other endeavors in Pokemon. Whatever the case may be, you have continued to accumulate accolade after accolade since the conclusion of season 9. You are the perfect example that it’s important to pace oneself in Pokemon. Many players forget the significance of distance, nor do they realize that distance can actually lead one closer to his goals than they imagined possible.

It goes without saying that you have become one of the most feared forces in the battlefield, which I believe is because you have demonstrated excellence with different types of teams. You can play conservatively, or you can throw off opponents successfully with more unorthodox teams. I’m sure you will continue to find inspirations for further innovation as you continue to play.

Some people value winning a lot as the true indicator of success. I, on the other hand, value consistency, resilience, and perseverance far more when evaluating one’s impact on our game. You have proven that you possess all of these qualities. When you made your debut on Pokemon Perfect three years ago, perhaps you were taken aback by just how competitive it was. What did you do when you suffered defeat for your first year? You learned from it and won your first tournament by slaying two enormous dragons in the semi finals and finals respectively. Despite suffering a couple of more setbacks after your triumph, you continued to persevere, which culminated in one of the most dominant season performances in history when you obtained a prodigious 56 out of 60 points in season 10. This is the current record for most points earned in a four-tournament season, and a record that I believe will stand for quite some time. Your positive attitude and ability to handle losses make it certain that you will find success again.
