  2. Welcome to Pokemon Perfect, Guest!

Our motto is Pokémon Practice makes Pokémon Perfect. We are a competitive-battling community that encourages the development of players and their ideas, and fosters positive and respectful attitudes. We love Collaboration (working together), Competition (getting stronger), and Communication (being informed).

You are free to post everywhere, unless the thread explicitly states otherwise (usually in the case of a vote), and there are no private forums whatsoever. Also, let us greet you by posting a thread in the Introduce Yourself! forum.

  3. Tiers

View Introduction to Tiers if you don't know what tiers are. Pokémon Perfect tiers are named differently to those on Smogon. A numeral followed by the letter U, e.g. 1U, 2U, 3U, represents a main tier on Pokémon Perfect – the '1' of '1U' representing the tier level. For a tier to be a main tier, it must be balanced (nothing is too powerful and game-breaking) and diverse enough (include a variety of Pokémon and strategies). A numeral followed by the letter P, e.g. 1P, 2P, 3P contain all Pokémon that are deemed overpowered in the respective 1U, 2U, 3U tiers. The 1st tier level allows Pokémon that are banned in the 2nd level, and this process continues down. Read the tier list, and in-depth explanations of the tiers naming system and tiering system. Also check out our analyses for all tiers.

  4. Tournaments

RBY 1U Seasons and its master tournaments are responsible for starting up the community, and tournaments continue to play a big role in maintaining interest in the forums. Signups Open gives you a list of tournaments you can join, and Ongoing lists tournaments that you might want to follow. Additionally, you can tap to find out approximate Schedules for tournaments.

For historical threads, check out Signups Closed, Finished tournaments and Results. We also have Nominations, Voting and Event threads for exhibitions – past and present.

Obligatory disclaimer that our overall tiering policy is still not fully settled, so the ruleset for this tour may differ from what eventually becomes 1U

    Tournament Format
The first round will last two weeks, and will consist of one three battle set (NOT Bo3) each week (two in total). After these two sets, all players with less than three wins will be eliminated.

Subsequent rounds will switch over to single elimination, or if a bracket cannot be constructed from the number of players that progress then the second round will have the same format as the first round, which repeats iteratively until a single elimination bracket can be created. If necessary, further modifications to the format may be made.

    Tour format

This tournament is divided into two stages- the initial stage and the elimination stage

    Initial stage

This stage consists of two rounds (one week each), with each round consisting of three battles. In order to advance to the next stage, each player must win three of their six battles. After the initial stage, the tournament progresses on to the elimination stage, unless it is absolutely impossible to create a reasonable bracket.

    Elimination stage

This is single elimination, with each match being Bo3. Players are seeded as best as possible based on the results from the initial stage. The bracket should be able to be resolved with 1v1 and 1v1v1 matches, with at most a handful of byes.

    Why I use this format

I've implemented this format to address issues with standard single elimination, where half of all players would play just a single match and be done with the tournament. That kind of result is thoroughly unsatisfactory for many players, especially those who expected to go deep into the tournament. The initial stage addresses this by requiring that all players play at least two sets, which is a more substantial experience, while also being relatively generous in terms of who progresses to the following round

    Seeding
All seeds for the first round will be randomly determined. Seeding will be implemented after the first round based on results in the first round (this is reset if creating a single elimination bracket is impossible).

    Tier ruleset
1U - Sleep Clause, Species Clause, SleepTrap Ban*
Banned Moves: Double Team, Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, Minimize
This is equivalent to GSC Ubers on Smogon

*This rule is inherited from Smogon's GSC tiers, but I believe it should be subject to discussion, as I don't think a complex ban should be implemented here and we're no longer under any obligation to remain faithful to the "original" GSC format since that's independent.
