We are a competitive-battling community that encourages the development of players and their ideas, and fosters positive and respectful attitudes. We love Collaboration (working together), Competition (getting stronger), and Communication (being informed).

  3. Tiers

View Introduction to Tiers if you don't know what tiers are. Pokémon Perfect tiers are named differently to those on Smogon. A numeral followed by the letter U, e.g. 1U, 2U, 3U, represents a main tier on Pokémon Perfect – the '1' of '1U' representing the tier level. For a tier to be a main tier, it must be balanced (nothing is too powerful and game-breaking) and diverse enough (include a variety of Pokémon and strategies). A numeral followed by the letter P, e.g. 1P, 2P, 3P contain all Pokémon that are deemed overpowered in the respective 1U, 2U, 3U tiers. The 1st tier level allows Pokémon that are banned in the 2nd level, and this process continues down. Read the tier list, and in-depth explanations of the tiers naming system and tiering system. Also check out our analyses for all tiers.

  4. Tournaments

RBY 1U Seasons and its master tournaments are responsible for starting up the community, and tournaments continue to play a big role in maintaining interest in the forums. Signups Open gives you a list of tournaments you can join, and Ongoing lists tournaments that you might want to follow. Additionally, you can tap to find out approximate Schedules for tournaments.

For historical threads, check out Signups Closed, Finished tournaments and Results. We also have Nominations, Voting and Event threads for exhibitions – past and present.

Hey all, for those of you unfamiliar with my seasons I like to write up a thread dumping my thoughts on what worked and what didn't towards the end of the season.

First, I really like the new tournament format, as I feel it ensures everyone gets a decent opportunity to play, while I don't think there was much adverse impacts on activity.

One thing that I think I ought to change is how I handle point distribution in the event of an activity call. I've equated a dead game to 0-0 and an activity win to 3-0. There's a few things to consider. Dead games could potentially be changed to vary based on whether there was contact between players or not, but I'm not inclined to pursue this, as the appropriate measure should be to award an extension. Second is that I feel that activity wins should award a 2-0 victory rather than a 3-0. 3-0 means instant advancement, which is a bit much imo when it means they might not even win a single battle. Furthermore, it means that players that only make a token effort to schedule might slip through when the two round system would otherwise catch them out.

Tiebreaking I think is a really important issue, and one measure that I'm planning on implementing is countback. The way this works is that for players that are tied, you go back and add up their opponent's records to determine who beat the strongest opponents, with the player with the strongest opponents being the winner of the tiebreak. Note that this potentially disadvantages players with inactive opps, as that'd obviously not give them an advantage in countback

The last change I'm likely to implement is to modify the format so that the top X players progress to elimination, rather than requiring a specific score. I think the unpredictability of the current system is highly undesirable, while the need to whip up brackets on the fly creates a lot of leeway for me to run into a conflict of interest, especially given the format's dependency on byes. This does however mean that there needs to be strong tiebreaking measures, but I'm hoping that head to head record (if it exists) and countback will prove sufficient.

Anyway, I'd love to hear what you guys think about the season, what you'd improve and whether you agree with my proposed changes
