  3. Tiers

View Introduction to Tiers if you don't know what tiers are. Pokémon Perfect tiers are named differently to those on Smogon. A numeral followed by the letter U, e.g. 1U, 2U, 3U, represents a main tier on Pokémon Perfect – the '1' of '1U' representing the tier level. For a tier to be a main tier, it must be balanced (nothing is too powerful and game-breaking) and diverse enough (include a variety of Pokémon and strategies). A numeral followed by the letter P, e.g. 1P, 2P, 3P contain all Pokémon that are deemed overpowered in the respective 1U, 2U, 3U tiers. The 1st tier level allows Pokémon that are banned in the 2nd level, and this process continues down. Read the tier list, and in-depth explanations of the tiers naming system and tiering system. Also check out our analyses for all tiers.

Welcome to the 2018 RBY OU World Championship!
This year, the tournament follows a format with three 2-stage FT2W rounds and a 3-way FT3W final round. Therefore, the maximum achievable number of points for [RBY OU Season #16] is 18.
Posting replays is mandatory for your game to count. Please also name all unrevealed mons in your team.

Contact deadline for both matchups: Monday Oct 22 (all deadlines 10.00am UK time)
Final deadline for both matchups: Monday Oct 29

Play a FT2W set against both of your opponents. If you win both sets, you advance; if you lose both, you are dropped from the tour. Winning one and losing one places you in an additional KO bracket.

A season point is awarded per 2 won games. If multiple rounds are played, points are awarded for the last round only.

Lady Fortuna's wheel spun in my favor in the first game, then turned around the other two and cursed me in, shall we say, "paralyzing" encounters.

In won 2-1 vs Alfredo Rivero, ggs
g1: forgot replay, Alfredo won (rip Razor Leaf miss on Rhydon :D). Teams were Lusch: Jolteon, Starmie Victreebel, Chansey, Snorlax Tauros; Alfredo: Alakazam, Rhydon, Exeggutor, Chansey, Snorlax, Tauros.
g2: [Gen 1] OU replay: Lusch vs. Alfredo_Rivero✘ - Pokémon Showdown
g3: [Gen 1] OU replay: Alfredo_Rivero✘ vs. Lusch - Pokémon Showdown (my last was Articuno)

    Edit:
Can you elaborate? How many points do you get for finishing a round? How many points do you get for winning the finals 3-way? How many points do you get for not finishing a round/the 3-way but winning some games in it?

Karp calculated it right, see Community - World Championship Format | Pokémon Perfect for a dissemination of the points system. Basically, since points are awarded in any stage you lose for all of the battles that you can win, and in the double-bracketed stages you can win up to 4 battles without reaching the next stage, 5 points are awarded for completing each double-bracketed stage. There are 3 of those stages, leaving 3 players left for a 3-way final which awards 3 points for completing (following how points are determined in 3-way finals in MTs), so the total for the tournament is indeed 18. However it should say that it's the number of points available for the world championship, not the season.

After half of the matches have been played, we already have some clear tendencies in usage stats.

Chansey has been on every single team so far, Tauros and Snorlax on all except one, which leads to them having only 49.1% winrate (thanks Enigami). Similarly, Exeggutor has 85.5% usage with a 50.9% winrate.
The really interesting part, however, are the lastmon dynamics. Lapras and Zapdos reign supreme with a 5-2 (71.4%) and 13-8 (61.9%) record, respectively. On the other end we have Rhydon with a measly 7-10 (41.2%). Other fillers like nonlead Starmie (3-5), nonlead Zam (2-2) or Articuno (2-1, but what on earth is it doing here? Please don't use it) don't have a large enough sample size to make a verdict just yet.
However, there have been some gimmicks with mixed effectiveness. While Victreebel and Jolteon have so far proven to be failures (1-4, 0-3), Slowbro has shown it may still be on par with meta fillers by going 3-1.

In the lead spot, we see a slightly higher Starmie usage (40.3%) over Alakazam (37.1%) and Jynx (12.9%). Jynx, however, seems to work for its select few users so far, sporting a 5-3 record as a lead and a sole win as a non-lead. At the moment, Alakazam has an edge (12-11, 52.2%) over Starmie (11-14, 44%). We will see if this persists once there have been more games.

One very important fact: not a single Golem game yet. Let's just keep it that way folks.

Detailed usage statistics will go up after Bracket 3 of Round 1 concludes.

Victreebel has an exceptional winrate in the invitational tournament however! ;)

I think except in exceptionally good/bad results, you need, I don't know, 30ish or 50ish or 100ish games before it's a meaningful sample size (well look I guess it depends how close to 50%. If it's like Jynx which, across a few sets of usage stats must have like 300 uses or whatever and is solidly hanging around 40% usage then that is realistically suggestive it's a weaker choice)

After this & invitational are complete, I would enjoy a data analysis thread! ^^

Ok, I am shocked at this. If you check terpnation's wall:

You can see we had scheduled for that time (friday his afternoon/my evening). However, he asked to postpone the set some hours before because he wanted to play sets that had a closer deadline. I told him weekend was completely impossible.

I still saw him online and contacted him. He plays TIN and then dips. And then, I realize that he was playing TIN for the exact same tournament he had to play me for.

I'm sorry, but I feel really disrespected here. I've been johned using deadline as an excuse for him to play someone else for the exact same tournament. With that said, I'm doing something I genuinely don't remember ever doing: requesting an activity win, for now. I'm still open to playing this but I won't go out of my way to get it done.

In response to Sceptross, we have until the 29th to finish this set. TIN is in bracket 1 for me so I thought I would do that one week 1 and bracket 2 week 2. Also he is gmt +2 and you are gmt +1, making TIN slightly harder for me to schedule with because those early afternoon hours are very hard for me to schedule.

    AAamen -> SimoRava
    Disaster Area, Kaz

Please keep in mind to schedule for a definite time, not "i can all day" - "ok same". Due to the nature of the tour, it will be literally impossible to give any kind of extension, and in borderline cases I will give act to the player that has shown more competent scheduling.

GGFan proposed a time, then showed up 24 hours early due to timezone misunderstandings and proposed a different one. HML am has been online at both times with no response since, and as such, gets the activity win.
Enigami and SaDiSTiCNarwhal put close to zero effort into getting their game done, with both players not showing to the final scheduled time and not inquiring about it. Since the game cannot be granted an extension, the winner was determined by [coinflip]. SaDiSTiCNarwhal advances to Round 2, while Enigami is dropped from the tour.

On another note, Bracket 3 is up. No formal contact deadline but be aware that you only have a week.

We did put effort in on Discord, but problems came up, sorry. In any case, Narwhal deserved the activity win here, so the result of the coinflip was correct anyway.
